INTRODUCTION

It involves resolution of conflicts amicably without parties seeing each other as an adversary. Alternative Dispute Resolution systems may be broadly categorized as negotiation, conciliation/mediation, or arbitration systems.

One of the advantages of Alternative Dispute Resolution is that it preserves the relationship between the parties. In Alternative Dispute Resolution both sides of parties to the dispute have a win-win solution, as it ensures to preserve the pre-dispute relationship that existed between the parties before the dispute.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) also allows communication between the parties. The systems allow more direct participation by the disputants in the process, more direct dialogue and give avenue for reconciliation between disputants.
Alternative Dispute Resolution proceedings allow for confidentiality and privacy. Unlike litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution are not always open to the public. Only the parties involved are allowed to the hearing, whatever goes on with the parties are not allowed to go the public domain.
Another advantage on Alternative Dispute Resolution is that it does not waste time. Parties may agree on the value to be used, when they want to meet and the number of hours they will meet.
It is less costly than litigation. Alternative Dispute Resolution can be more expensive since the parties are the one paying for the service but In the long run it is cheaper than litigation.
Lastly Alternative Dispute Resolution enhances mutual agreement and friendliness between parties involved, as it disallow enmity that is usually caused by litigation.
In conclusion, Alternative Dispute Resolution has become the perfect means of settling both commercial and family dispute as it helps to maintain the relationship between parties.
