RESIDENCE PERMIT IN NIGERIA

Foreigners who work or establish a business in Nigeria must often apply for a residency permit ninety (90) days after beginning their employment there in order to comply with local regulations. A foreigner can work and remain legally in Nigeria with the use of a residency permit, free from interference from immigration officers. The CERPAC permits the holder to live and work in Nigeria for a two-year period after which it may be renewed. The employer's expatriate quota must be valid in order for CERPAC to be renewed.

STEP BY STEP GUIDELINE TO OBTAIN NIGERIA RESIDENCE PERMIT

The following is a step by step guideline on how to obtain your residence permit in Nigeria as long as you fall within the above listed category.

OBTAIN ALL THE DOCUMENT NECESSARY

Getting all required paperwork ready should be your first priority. If you don't have all the necessary paperwork, applying for a residence permit will be challenging, and you could not even be approved.

Below are required documents to successfully obtain a residence permit in Nigeria;

  • Valid international passport to include the existing STR visa and arrival endorsement page

  • An official application letter from employer (can also be School/ Embassy/NGO/INGO, MDAs or high commission as applicable). The letter should state the following; Request for regularisation of stay for the employee Employers willingness to accept all immigration responsibility on behalf of the employee

  • Photocopy of applicant’s passport bio data page and other relevant pages

  • Three copies of recent passport photographs taken on a white background

  • Duly filled application form IMM22

  • Proof of CERPAC application form such CERPAC application payment receipt or bank teller

  • Copy of applicant’s valid National passport

RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FEES FOR EXPATRIATE

The residence permit application fees for the above category of applicants is as follows;

  • International students and Missionaries- $400 or its Naira equivalent

  • Fees for expatriate working for federal , state or local government – Gratis

  • Fees for expatriates working for NGO- $1, 000

  • Fees for INGO – Gratis

  • All categories of expatriates including those working for companies in Free Trade Zone – $1,000

RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION PROCESSING PERIOD

Five working days following the application's receipt is the official time frame allotted for processing an expatriates residency permit. Candidates are cautioned, nonetheless, that waiting times can change based on the circumstances of particular applications. Furthermore, processing of incomplete papers may be delayed.
